Huge Swell hits Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica - Out Front at Marea Brava Hotel!

This June we saw waves here in Playa Hermosa, and out front of Marea Brava Beachfront Hotel, the show was on! With overhead sets hitting on a full-moon tide, surfers like Gilbert Brown, Jairo Perez, Diego Naranjo and others put on a show of aerial maneuvers, deep barrel rides and lots of snaps and slashes.

The swell peaked in the afternoon with double overhead sets hitting. Here at Marea Brava the action was heavy, a few surfers took advantage of the great break in front of the hotel and there were some deep barrels to be had.

Reef 2011 National Costa Rican Surf Contest

June 10th, 2011 - Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica, just in front of Marea Brava Hotel in Playa Hermosa - the CNS Costa Rican Surf Federation's Reef Final kicked off. A showcase of national talent, from Juniors to Master's, men and women's categories.

Conditions were fair to good, in teh chest-to-head high range. Surfers from all over tehe country showed up, the contest was held just down the beach from Marea Brava Hotel in Playa Hermosa.

With surfers such as Gilbert Brown, Carlos Munoz, and Jairo Perez in the water, there was plenty of showing of fins, aerial maneuvers and a few tube rides to be had. Lonboarders competed as well in the event with waves slightly overhead and a few bigger sets.

Women's and Juniors categories also showed for the event, including multiple-year champions such as Lizbeth Vindas. Here at Marea Brava Hotel in Playa Hermosa, we could see the action from in front of the hotel. We look forward to more contests this year as Billabong and possibly Quicksilver will be bringing some action to Costa Rica.
